{"id":13,"date":"2022-03-19T05:09:40","date_gmt":"2022-03-19T09:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.senatormartyniouk.ca\/main\/?page_id=13"},"modified":"2022-05-05T23:54:48","modified_gmt":"2022-05-06T03:54:48","slug":"alberta-senate-act","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.senatormartyniouk.ca\/main\/index.php\/alberta-senate-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Alberta Senate Act"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sencanada.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"450\" src=\"http:\/\/www.senatormartyniouk.ca\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/SenateChamber-1024x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.senatormartyniouk.ca\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/SenateChamber-1024x450.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.senatormartyniouk.ca\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/SenateChamber-300x132.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.senatormartyniouk.ca\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/SenateChamber-768x337.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.senatormartyniouk.ca\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/SenateChamber.jpg 1125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Alberta has reinstated Senate nominee elections to allow Albertan\u2019s to choose who would best represent them in the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.assembly.ab.ca\/assembly-business\/bills\/bill?billinfoid=11804&amp;from=bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bill 13: the <em>Alberta Senate Election Act<\/em><\/a> came into effect on July 18, 2019 to bring back Senate nominee elections so voters can decide who will best represent them in the Senate and fight for Alberta\u2019s interests in Ottawa.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.assembly.ab.ca\/assembly-business\/bills\/bill?billinfoid=11860&amp;from=bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bill 27: the <em>Alberta Senate Election Amendment Act, 2020&nbsp;<\/em><\/a> came into effect on July 23, 2020 to amend the <em>Alberta Senate Election Act<\/em>, which allows Senate elections to be held during municipal elections, during provincial elections or stand alone.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the previous law, which expired in 2016, Alberta held Senate nominee elections from 1989 until 2012. During this time, 10 nominees were elected and 5 were appointed to the Senate. Alberta currently has 6 representatives in the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021 a Senate Election was held, and Mykhailo Martyniouk became a nominee to the senate with 237,228 votes and is now awaiting the Prime Minister to recognize the will of the Albertan people and appoint him to the senate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alberta has reinstated Senate nominee elections to allow Albertan\u2019s to choose who would best represent them in the Senate.
